E911 - Perception is Reality

January 27th, 2010. – By: Bill MacKay

Perception is reality, if it’s perceived to be true it is.

I was recently reminded of something that Professor Chekitan S. Dev from Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration and Associate Professor of Strategic Marketing would say with regular frequency, "Perception is reality, if it's perceived to be true it is."

We have worked with a number of clients that recently upgraded or purchased new equipment. Because the technology acquired was the latest and most recent release of software and hardware, it was thought to have everything that would be required to compliant with any legislation, particularly E911. A perception of truth, but this reality is anything but compliant.

There is the potential to be E911 compliant, but there is some additional effort required. With some platforms there may also exist the need for additional equipment.

Getting it right for the enterprise client is of significant importance and requires that Communication Managers complete the due diligence of E911 compliancy and not rely on perceptions.
