Samantha Kane Nominated for 2010 TIAW World of Difference 100 Award

May 26th, 2010.

The TIAW want to tell the stories of outstanding women achieving extraordinary things - often with little or no recognition. The top100 recipients will be announced at the 30th Anniversary2010 World of Difference Awards Gala, October 25th, 2010 in Toronto, Canada.

Categories for the nominations include:

  • Community - How has the candidate positively impacted the economic empowerment of women in her local community?
  • Corporate - How has the candidate positively impacted the economic empowerment of women within her corporation? And/or how has the candidate used her corporate position to further the economic empowerment of women in the corporate world or elsewhere?
  • Entrepreneurial - Through entrepreneurial activities, how has the candidate positively impacted the economic empowerment of women? And/or how has the candidate positively impacted the entrepreneurial capability of women?
  • Non-Profit / NGO - How has the candidate positively impacted the economic empowerment of women through work in, or the development of, non-profit or Non-Governmental Organizations?
  • Education - How has the candidate positively impacted the economic empowerment of women through education?
  • Public Service / Government - How has the candidate positively impacted the economic empowerment of women through a public service or government role?

Economic Empowerment as defined by TIAW means contributing to the ability of women to earn a living or make an economic impact, as distinct from other very worthy contributions that are outside of the scope of these awards. For example, activities that would NOT be within our criteria would be creating or participating in social programs, such as programs to support motherhood, family planning, health care, childcare etc. Many educational programs DO meet the criteria if their purpose or effect is to enable women to earn money themselves or enable other women to earn money or develop financial security. Business training for women, financial literacy programs for women would be good examples of programs that DO align with the World of Difference 100 Awards criteria.

Ms. Kane was nominated in the Entrepreneurial category.
